In the 1970s, a USA company that would become Dita USA distributed several brands of field hockey equipment before deciding to import and distribute only Dita USA products. This company, not yet known as Dita USA, contributed to the advancement of the modern field hockey stick by combining fiberglass and other materials in 1972, with the aim of creating the best possible field hockey stick available for the demands of the then new turf game. This innovation by Thomas van Arkle was introduced as the Dita Mega Pro to the world at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. The old Dita USA logo, seen on this website, which dates from the 1970s, was also designed by van Arkle. In 1982 van Arkle changed the company name to Dita USA, after receiving in 1982 the exclusive distribution rights for Dita brand field hockey gear in the United States of America.
